TThe Hidden Legitimacy Challenges Faced by Female Entrepreneurs

More and more women are starting businesses, yet they are not always evaluated according to the same expectations as men.

Their projects, profiles, and entrepreneurial identity are often subject to additional specific and often implicit judgments that can negatively affect their credibility, access to resources, and recognition as legitimate entrepreneurs.

Drawing on Sonia Siraz’s research on entrepreneurship and legitimacy, this talk will explore the subtle social mechanisms that shape the experience of female entrepreneurs. It will show that challenges do not lie only in access to funding or networks, but also in the less visible processes through which some entrepreneurs are more readily seen as credible, convincing, and legitimate than others.
